About Us

We believe that every person  regardless of their background, circumstances, or past deserves access to compassionate care, meaningful opportunity, and a community that believes in them.

Healing is possible for everyone.

— April Lang-Barroga, Founder

Our Story

Wellness Without Barriers was founded in Northern Nevada by April Lang-Barroga, a licensed marriage and family therapist and licensed alcohol and drug counselor with two decades of experience working alongside individuals navigating behavioral health challenges, recovery, and reentry. April witnessed firsthand the systemic gaps that prevent people from accessing the care and support they need — not because services don't exist, but because the barriers to reaching them are too high.

What began as a vision to bridge those gaps has grown into a nonprofit organization committed to removing every barrier standing between a person and their wellness. We believe that healing is possible for everyone, and that communities are stronger when every member has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Mission

The mission of Wellness Without Barriers is to eliminate barriers to behavioral health care and recovery by expanding equitable access to comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment, recovery support services, education, workforce development, and community-based resources for individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and justice system involvement. Through compassionate, evidence-based, and person-centered services, we empower individuals to achieve lasting recovery, strengthen their families, successfully reintegrate into their communities, and build healthy, meaningful, and self-sufficient lives. We are dedicated to fostering hope, restoring dignity, and creating communities where wellness is accessible to everyone.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every individual, regardless of life circumstances or justice system involvement, has equitable access to behavioral health care, recovery supports, stable housing, education, meaningful employment, and opportunities to thrive. Our vision is to create communities where barriers to wellness no longer exist, recovery is embraced, stigma is reduced, and every person has the opportunity to achieve lifelong health, resilience, and purpose.

Our Core Values

These values guide every decision we make and every relationship we build.

Dignity

Every person we serve is treated with unconditional respect and worth — regardless of their history, circumstances, or background.

Compassion

We lead with empathy and meet people where they are, without judgment, in every interaction.

Equity

We are committed to dismantling systemic barriers and ensuring that our services are accessible to all people, especially those who have been historically underserved.

Hope

We hold hope on behalf of those who may not yet be able to hold it for themselves — and we work tirelessly to make that hope real.

Community

We believe healing happens in relationship. We build bridges between individuals, families, providers, and community organizations.

Integrity

We operate with transparency, accountability, and a deep commitment to the people and communities we serve.

Our Approach

Wellness Without Barriers takes a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to everything we do. We don't prescribe a single path to wellness — we walk alongside each individual, honoring their unique strengths, goals, and journey. Our work is grounded in evidence-based practices, cultural humility, and a deep respect for the lived experience of the people we serve.

Guiding principles

  • Person-centered and strengths-based
  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive
  • Collaborative and community-rooted
  • Equity-focused and anti-stigma
  • Accountable and outcomes-driven

The Story Behind Our Logo

Every element of the Wellness Without Barriers logo was intentionally designed to reflect our mission of removing barriers and creating pathways to recovery, opportunity, and community.

Wellness Without Barriers logo — open circle, figure with open arms, bridge forming the letter W, rising sun, and pathway

The Open Circle

The open circle represents barriers being broken. Rather than a closed boundary, the intentional opening symbolizes that healing, hope, and opportunity should never be limited by circumstance. It reflects our commitment to creating equitable access to behavioral health services and ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to move forward.

The Figure with Open Arms

At the center of the logo is a person with open arms, representing hope, dignity, resilience, and the belief that every person deserves the chance to heal, grow, and thrive. This figure is the heart of our organization and symbolizes the individuals, families, and communities we are privileged to serve.

The Bridge

The bridge, thoughtfully designed to form the letter "W," symbolizes connection. It represents the journey from crisis to stability, from incarceration to successful community reintegration, from addiction to recovery, and from isolation to belonging. Bridges connect people to resources, relationships, and opportunities — and that is the foundation of our work.

The Rising Sun

Behind the bridge, the rising sun represents hope, renewal, and new beginnings. Every sunrise reminds us that each day offers another opportunity for healing, personal growth, and lasting recovery.

The Pathway

The pathway flowing beneath the bridge symbolizes that recovery is a journey rather than a destination. While every individual's path is unique, no one should have to walk it alone. Wellness Without Barriers is committed to walking alongside individuals as they navigate treatment, recovery, education, employment, and lifelong wellness.

The Green Color Palette

The green color palette reflects healing, growth, renewal, and resilience. The combination of dark forest green and sage green represents both strength and compassion — qualities that guide our work and our partnerships throughout Northern Nevada.

Recovery. Opportunity. Community.

Our guiding words represent the core of everything we do. Recovery creates hope. Opportunity empowers change. Community sustains healing. Together, these values inspire our commitment to removing barriers and building healthier, stronger communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Our logo is more than a symbol — it is a promise. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that every person, regardless of their past or present circumstances, has access to compassionate care, meaningful opportunities, and a supportive community where wellness can flourish.
